Admiral Paka Larem, Task Force 38 CO

Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Andrew, but most people know me as aio. I am also the artist formerly known as aiolos, aeolos and for the really old members ‘Pringles’. Because once I popped, I didn’t stop. I enjoy writing, and I enjoy Star Trek and I enjoy everything associated with both. I’m an avid reader and can safely say I have read 99% of the Star Trek Re-Launch novel series. I also run AioCorp Hosting, a website hosting business and My RPG Space. I also gift free sim hosting to Bravo Fleet members.

What is your favorite Trek series and why?
I don’t like questions like this. It’s like asking someone who is their favorite child. If I had to choose I would say Next Generation. Or Deep Space 9. Or Voyager. Or The Original Series. Or Enterprise. Or Discovery. Any of them, all of them. I love them all. I loved the isolation of Voyager, I love the bridging of the gaps of Enterprise and Discovery. I love the arcing of Deep Space 9. I love the Original Series because without it nothing else would happen. And I love Picard of Next Generation.

Who is your favorite Trek character and why?
Again, I don’t have one favourite character, but that being a non-answer, it would have to be Picard. He started off, both the actor and the character, stiff and in charge of his crew. But he ended up being the head of a family. He had faults and he knew them. And the way he grew throughout the series, and then the movies was amazing.

When and where did you first start simming?
No one knows the exact day, but one day, deep in the bowels of the Earth I was disturbed from slumber. And then I appeared in Bravo Fleet. In all seriousness, I don’t actually remember the exact circumstances. I remember now knowing what Star Trek was. I remember turning it off when I was younger. And then one say I was in love with it. I think I was looking for a Star Trek game and stumbled upon Bravo Fleet. Low and behold, I seemed to enjoy it!

Where did you get your “start” in Bravo Fleet?
Again, date unknown. It was around mid-2003? I was 15/16. Applied to the USS Rainmaker, which if I recall was in Task Force 86. I didn’t last a long time there. Not really much in the place for development for the Assistant Chief Conn Officer. But that was my first simming.

What is something you absolutely love about Bravo Fleet?
The people. The stories. I love seeing where people take the stories. When you come up with an idea and how you think it would end, and then someone else says ‘Well, what about this way instead?’ and you are sitting there like ‘This is so much cooler!!’. Without the community here, without each and every single writer we have, we wouldn’t be here. It’s just a great place to be, and I love it here.

What is it about your role as a member of the BFA that you love?
The ability to not only grow my own characters, and develop my own stories, but to help nurture the stories and characters of everyone else. I’ve been in a few different positions on the BFA, and I have to say I love being a TFCO. I love helping new CO’s, and even experienced CO’s, grow what they have and continue to break the molds of what we know as Star Trek, and basically come up with our own unique fork of Star Trek. And seeing where people can take that never ceases to bring me joy.

If you could say anything to the community about Bravo Fleet, what is it?
Every single person in Bravo Fleet is a single cog of our machine. When everyone works together and puts maximum effort in, that is when we see our best. To quote the New Radicals “You only get what you give”. The more you put in, the more you get out. So I would just encourage everyone to give as much as they feel they can because when everyone gives their all, everyone gets it back. And that can only serve to grow the fleet. And if you think you can help somewhere, just ask a BFA member. I am sure we can find something for you to do if you want to contribute.

What is one idea you would like to see happen with the fleet as a whole?
Keep growing, keep being better than what it is. Always aiming higher. Just to keep the stories coming!

What can we expect to come from your purview in the fleet?
Well once my power base is consolidated, I plan to take over and have everyone working for me. And when that likely doesn’t happen, I just want to help us grow. I want to cultivate the seeds we sow until one day we have a tree! And then we have plenty of other seeds to sow.
